World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items can be used to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all the leveled up perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade item you decide to make. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips for items. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the item level. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it will be capable of dealing with. The level of an item can be used to compare items when examining a vendor's inventory.

The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are various theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This can result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, because the level of the region the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the best." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher costs.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an exclusive name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll attaches. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or an item upgrades that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that could be altered by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in early game runs because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned using the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to increase the existing Luck of an item up to 140.

Moreover, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or created with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item may affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
