The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range, including Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and offers many options for customizing. It also sends you notifications when a door is left open, when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill which is an option that is available in a few other GE refrigerators that allows you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to pour out simultaneously. It does offer a countdown on the fridge's display to show how much water you have left, but it's not as useful as Precise Fill.

The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0°F and never fluctuated more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to avoid freezer burn. The fridge section of the fridge also performed well. It reached the initial temperature within an hour and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

It also comes with a huge water dispenser as well as a good Ice machine that is fast.

The "Chill Drawer", which is situated above the two crisper bins, is another excellent feature. This drawer lets you redirect some of the fridge's cooling power to the area so that you can keep food items that require extra attention. This feature is adjustable using a slider located outside the drawer. You can also alter the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.

In my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures were fairly consistent across all areas of the fridge. Temperatures at the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary very far from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a great performance, but it doesn't quite make it to the top of our rankings.
