10 Things Everybody Hates About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrades by 3. A random extra substat is also added to each upgrade.
Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll an exact version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item upgrading level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrades will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.
The cost of upgrading will depend on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are useful items that are used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.
The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.
Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with numerous new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is true even if those items are from an entirely different set of equipment.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.
Crests
Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item level upgrade that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.
First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment of a certain rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and simplest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.
Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.
Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
