Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to increase the stats of your weapons and armor. Upgradeable items are available throughout the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. The number of upgrade components required for a given item upgrader can be seen in the upper-right corner of the window for upgrading. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the level of upgrade and rarity, but can be reduced by various methods, including purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them to other players.

Nearly all weapons can be upgraded using an upgrade to a prefix, such as an insignia or rune. Many can be upgraded using an upgrade suffix. These upgrades add an adjective to the name of the item for example "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to convey visual information. They move to catch the attention of the viewer and stimulate interest in the brain. The animation of glyphs resembles the body language, making them more effective in communicating an inter-linguistic message. Glyphs can also increase the retention of a message by evoking an emotional connection in the brain.

Each glyph has a range of values that it can improve a stat by according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an Artifact. This range is the maximum value that the glyph can enhance a stat by but not the amount it will actually increase it by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the product you are enchanting it to.

The majority of upgrade components installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. However, if you have an unusable rune or glyph that hasn't yet been incorporated into your equipment, you can transfer it to another piece of equipment by utilizing the upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you want to remove a glyph from an item level upgrade, you will need to salvage it with the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will destroy the item in which it is installed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item using the glyph and its fragments, therefore, it shouldn't be considered a loss.

A glyph added to an item upgrader mod could cause it to become unstable and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you dismantle the item. You can also place a glyph on your equipment to increase its value. For example the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly instead of all at one time. This is helpful for players who take many hits from enemies but do not want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens are used to alter the affixes on weapons and other equipment. They can be obtained from many sources, such as mysterious boxes and rare drops from skulled monsters, or by killing bosses. Each reroll token grants the player a brand new random affix that is usually superior to the original. Reroll tokens can be used to boost the weapon's stats to increase damage or bonuses.

Items that have been rerolled may not appear in the item upgrade menu, but they can still receive upgrades. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its level gauge. The amount is by the item's rarity as well as its level. Therefore, higher-leveled items are more valuable to recycle than lower-leveled ones.

Players can also make use of Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits for upgraded units. Rerolls will determine the percentage chance of a particular weapon trait. Instead, they're planning to include an ability to change races in the near future.

Leveling

There are many ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount that increases the value of an upgrade for the stat. The alternative is to increase the effect of an upgrade, which increases damage or healing for the stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. The upgraded item will keep its iLevel, but have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.
