Why No One Cares About Item Upgrades
Path of Exile Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a common and important way to improve the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a fantastic source of extra damage or more AD or even more affixes.
Rare-grade equipment is usually superior to the more modernized Common or Magic equipment due to their higher requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They boost the performance of the item Upgrader Kit (morphomics.Science) that they are attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged using a professional or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrade components from other items.
The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will take on. The upgrade of an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will increase its ability to absorb damage. However, it's important keep in mind that this will raise its weight, requiring it to weigh more than before.
There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades that are that are available in the game and each one has distinct effects. For instance, certain upgrades will grant the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others will make it stronger and lighter. The name of the upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade that an item will be given, as illustrated below.
Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Some upgrades also require charges in order to be used. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are continuously updated or never expire based on the upgrade.
The cheapest way to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more costly, but is readily available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide a significant improvement in performance and are worth the cost, especially for single-handed weapons.
The player should be aware, however, that upgrading a piece to its max upgrade level will increase its defense value. However, it will also reduce its agility and its speed. For this reason, it is not recommended to upgrade armor pieces above +9, because the increase in defense is generally not worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades needed.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades give players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. For instance, an upgrade may increase the damage dealt by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of a sniper rifle. Certain firearms have enhancements to enhance their intrinsic characteristics. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and minimizes weapon overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).
The majority of upgrades to weapons require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade to apply. They can be gained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain number of monsters and bosses.
To upgrade a weapon, equipment set piece, or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars you will need to complete the upgrade. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Previously, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific number of Bars to upgrade your weapon or equipment to an increased quality. You could do this until you reached a maximum upgrade level for the weapon or equipment, after which upgrades would reset.
This is still possible, but it relies heavily on RNG. You should consider buying equipment that has minimal upgrade levels and high base scores and stat distributions. These will then be able to give you the best tier of benefits and blessings.
To increase their level quicker, players usually prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates utilize to increase their power. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to enhance its effectiveness when accompanied by biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are utilized in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method for creating them. You combine gemstones with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or through salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.
The quality of a diamond can be improved upon by the Jeweler in stages that vary from Crude to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ depending on the level the jewel is at when it's inserted into jewelry, weapons or equipment.
The Jeweler is able to create all tiers of gems, except for the rare and legendary ones, which you must be at certain levels to gain. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped by a different jewel of the same type without damaging it. You are able to replace the jewel once in an item of equipment.
The use of more jewels in a movement will make it feel smoother and is typically performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels can also enhance performance and make an outer layer that is more durable than metal so that repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to them.
In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades additionally, players can get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These provide a small bonus and are able to be swapped easily but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components such as traits or aegis can't be swapped, and can only be found through an upgrade extractor or salvaging using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage.
Trinkets
Trinkets are pieces of equipment that provide an array of small, but beneficial advantages to your hero. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and through doing road interactions. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinkets a player unlocks will be the cloak. It grants an unimportant but beneficial boost in speed of movement and evasion. The player can then collect necklaces, rings, and amulets in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that can accommodate either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be placed in any type of equipment, while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and only works with certain types of trinkets.
These trinkets also grant additional buffs and skills that remain active even when the character is not fighting. This lets a hero be more efficient while inactive. It also helps compensate for the lack of a good slots in the team or talent tree which are usually filled by the hero's optimal stats.
A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is true especially if you are looking to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It's best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.
Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red trinket at the beginning of the game. Mid and top players on the other hand will pick a green or a pink ward, based on the matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's ability to control his map.
Aside from the items mentioned above, players can also find other items in the form of trophies and awards. These can be earned through completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing a chapter’s main quest or defeating a boss. These achievements can be seen by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
