Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the equipment to which it is used (for examplethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or by purchasing them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher tier version of an item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of the extent to which it will improve following a subsequent reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be expensive, and it is possible that the item will eventually become obsolete or even break if the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items to double or even eliminate the chance of failure, and some upgrades that provide an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade elements that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, which includes any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We suggest upgrading them as soon as possible to level 15.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of an Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools, and through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be put on your equipment. These points can be used to level the item, and once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrades a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced with a new item. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will also have its own set bonus. This could be a drawback in that it could make the item upgrader kit more expensive if you do not need it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do this. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and completely different bonuses. This can be beneficial however it should not be used frequently as it can waste resources.

Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to modify their equipment. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player is repeatedly in and out of the water (or is able to swim like a dolphin). If an item is not upgraded the experience bar on its growth bar will be reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it earned like crit chance damage to attack, other effects (such as an increase in healing over time or the speed of reloading). However, the user can still continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded increases its crit chance, the increase will be applied before any damage to attack increases.
