Upgrades to items can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Item Level

This is another aspect that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a chance to upgrade their gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more useful in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each level of the item and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Moreover, certain items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..

The luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them.
