Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats are increased in value. This value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the level of an item. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it is able to deal. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done by using the item level.

On your PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full item upgrader kit description, including its ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are various theories on how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory states that the item level is calculated using an equation that determines how valuable the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This can lead to an Best item upgrade's ilvl which is calculated and is typically very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

It's not the only factor that influences the ilvl of an item. The location of where the item was dropped may alter its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by boosting certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats of an item level upgrade is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. Similar to base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of item upgrade discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of the properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more valuable in early game runs than in later ones, because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of an item upgrade, up to 140.

Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased from the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade item failing can't exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has a base success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional five percent.

The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
