WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with higher variance due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item upgrader kit used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar Best item upgrade, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item level Upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level for an item upgrader kit in an armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less, even if they are part of a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to gear that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item upgrade such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
