WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the item level Upgrade level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the item upgrades being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which displays an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item level upgrade upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will cost less even when they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a couple of options. Flightstones are an Best item upgrade that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

First, you must be aware that crests are only available for equipment that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and simplest upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
