World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader you choose and the type of upgrade you choose to do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It is also used to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

Using the item level will allow players to compare the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an indicator of the item's condition and quality. The item level can also be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

On your PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item upgrade and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the item level is determined. One theory says that the level of an item is calculated by an equation that determines how valuable the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value and that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual level of the item upgrader kit.

However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, as the size of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A white or grey item, for example, will only be upgraded one time however, items that has rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Another way to change the stats on an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item level upgrade are based on the level of the Best item upgrade, however all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the specified range, unless it is a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. As with base equipment, it must be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has an overall success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
