Be sure to regularly examine the brushes of your robot for hair that is tangled as well as large debris and clean them as required. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in an additional bin located at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots that vacuum and mop also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's more expensive and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot hoover and mop vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
If you have a bigger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
