WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item upgrades has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a certain item upgrader mod level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if the items come from a different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a couple of options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific Item level upgrade level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment of a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one usage therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
