Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item upgrade level by +3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for the latter because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an button, which displays an item's preview at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Crests

They are available in four ranks.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to avail the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality gear.
